Application Process & Interviews at Ericsson

The interviews where culture based and I felt the questions were acceptable for someone who has not been in the industry before.

Graduate assessment

one phone interview, one online interview, one group assessment, one face to face interview

Very long and although determines a person's skills and competencies, it doesn't seem to support the roles required by the business.

I went through an assessment centre, online test and a final interview with a hiring manager.

I had an odd interview process because I was in another state from the office. I submitted my resume on the portal and then had a phone interview. I did not do the group assessment like everyone else. I had to do the question on my own where they sent through the question to me and I had one hour to create a proposal and then they called me one hour later and I had to present over the phone. Then I had my final interview via Skype.

The interview process and assessment centre was run relatively smoothly in comparison to other companies I have experienced. They endeavour to keep the candidate in the loop as much as possible which is excellent.

There are several stages starting with an online interview, then with a group interview, followed by an online assessment and then with the final interview.

What challenges have you faced when working in a team? how did you solve them? etc.

Been a while but most of the interviews covered selling scenarios and/or me describing stories of: - times I was able to solve problems - times I had a problem but was not able to solve and how I worked around the issue - things I do in my spare time that enable my skills.

Most of the questions were behavioural questions and what my plan was for the next 2, 5 and 10 years. Typical behavioural questions.

Which features of mine you thought could bring benefits to company?

Behavioural, experience based

General attitude questions and examples of working in teams and taking leadership. Nothing Technical.

A lot of the questions focused around my ability to handle pressure and work through difficult problems to attain solutions. There is a large focus on employees with good soft skills (how they are spoken, how much drive they have, and how well they work in teams) as technical skills are often best learned on the job.

Mostly behavioral questions (e.g. what was a time you overcame conflict)

Phone Interview: Generic questions for the interviewer to understand who you are. Assessment Centre: Tests your knowledge of the Telecommunications industry - in particular, the areas which the company is heavily involved with. Also tests how you incorporate these ideas in a team environment to reach a combined goal Interview with Manager: Past experiences in other working environments to gather your strengths and weaknesses, how you are in a working environment and how you deal with differing situations in work related environments.

In the 1:1 interview, I was asked to describe in detail what sort of approach I would take to solve a complex problem. In the online interview, I was asked to detail my knowledge about Ericsson.

Describe a project you did, do you have any side projects, what does Ericsson do, why did you apply at Ericsson... very general.

Experience, technical, what I can bring

Nothing out of the ordinary: knowledge of the company, past work experience, what makes you 'valuable' etc. etc.

What is the general trend in the telecommunications industry

I would say that they need to know about what interests them in why they want to work for Ericsson and what interests them about the Telecommunications industry.

Understand the values, and culture.

Tips for group interview in test center: 1) be yourself and relax; 2) be positive to join group discussion but don't interrupt others talk; 3) talk slowly when you catch a chance to talk, make your points clear and neat

On a technical front, learn to script, learn to use Linux, learn to use advanced functions in MS office, and learn to automate.

Learn about the trends of the telecom industry and its new developments and direction

Learn what Ericsson actually does and what the business model is.

Have and open mind, be creative, soft skills are important

Be yourself. It's not about "showing off" or being someone who you aren't. They will want you for who you are.

My biggest tip is to show you are a team player, but also show you can be a leader. My company needs to know that you can work cooperatively within a team but can also be autonomous when needed. The best way to prepare is to provide evidence of previous experience in these areas. Further, remain calm and composed, listen to others, and speak up (let them know you have a voice!)

Know the company well: Read up on articles and watch videos on YouTube that is published by the company.

Be true and answer politely and straight forward.

Make sure you do practice psychometric tests. In the assessment center, be friendly and talkative. However, don't do this at the expense of others. Understand that Ericsson no longer makes Sony Ericsson phones, many people apply not knowing what Ericsson actually does in today's day and age.

Know the company, be able to apply work experience/life experience examples that cover/demonstrate the company's values

Good to show you are a well-rounded person - not just academically smart or with good grades. Ericsson values personality and positive spirit.

Yes. Know Ericsson as well as possible. Be yourself. Be curious and be confident.

Just throw in a lot of buzz words, and stop being desperate for a job so you can assess what the job really is before taking it on.
