Department of Home Affairs

  • 1,000 - 50,000 employees

Are you curious and willing to stretch yourself to achieve your full potential?

Are you adaptable, resilient and investigative, with a drive for continuous learning and open to new experiences?

We are looking for Australia's leading 'go-getters' to join our dynamic workforce dedicated to keeping Australia prosperous, secure and united. We offer our graduates a range of interesting opportunities and unique experiences, contributing to a culture that values diversity, respect and inclusion.

Our 12-month Graduate Development Program offers you a range of interesting and challenging work, access to professional development, excellent employment conditions, support by various diversity networks, rewarding professional relationships as well as endless career opportunities and pathways.

We provide you support through an orientation and induction program, a mentor to launch your career, a range of Graduate events, access to health and wellbeing programs, as well as a team of supervisors and program managers to assist and guide you.

We acknowledge Indigenous Australians as the traditional custodians of this land and we recognise the importance of learning about our rich histories, cultures and achievements.

Our core foundations of success are built on respect, acceptance, understanding and equal opportunity to promote the attraction, retention and development of Indigenous Australians.

This allows us to reinforce our commitment to working with you to build a successful career; one that continually provides ongoing access to support, active career management and professional development opportunities to maximise progression and potential.

We strive to ensure the following initiatives and support are always accessible to our Indigenous staff:

  • access to our Indigenous Staff Support Network
  • a Diversity and Inclusion section and senior Indigenous Champions, who advance Indigenous initiatives
  • access to a mentor and/or buddy to provide support and guidance
  • a Reconciliation Action Plan as part of our commitment to the 'Closing the Gap' agenda
  • the promotion of cultural awareness training for all staff to support professional development

This is an ongoing engagement, in which you will experience various workplace rotations within the Department before being welcomed to your home placement at the end of your rotation period.

Your options are not limited by your degree. Your degree has equipped you with a wealth of transferable skills that can be utilised across all facets of the Department.

We provide an exciting range of opportunities across various business areas including:

  • Policy
  • Corporate
  • Program Implementation
  • Intelligence
  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

Positions are based in Canberra (with a level of relocation assistance available).

Note: If you are found suitable, but not offered a graduate position, you may be placed in a talent pool. The talent pool may be used to fill non-graduate (similar vacancy) positions in various locations across the Department.
